Development and Research Significance of Rotary Kiln


The structural strength of the rotary kiln is related to the manufacturing, installation, operation, the quality of the refractory bricks and other factors. In addition, the cost of manufacture of the rotary kiln is very high, so the many uses require that the rotary kiln should have long service life. The structure design of the rotary kiln is a little conservative. Since the theory is not perfect, people prefer the classic theory of elementary mechanics rather than the not ripe strength design theory of the rotary kiln. In 1990s, with the development of finite element theory and computer technology, the finite element method began to be used at home and abroad to analyze the main parts of the rotary kiln.
Through finite element analysis of the rotary kiln, the experts of Henan Hongxing Mining Machinery have studied the principles to determine the repair and maintenance plan of the barrel according to the stress-strain, which has changed the way to check local damage of the barrel depending on the temperature. In these studies, the element study of the rotary kiln is rarely. The experts of Henan Hongxing Mining Machinery have studied the contact finite element of the entire rolling ring of the rotary kiln and the barrel. The focus is on the fatigue study of the entire cylinder. However, the contact angle distribution and the size of the contact force have not been studied systematacially.  The contact finite element study of the rolling ring and the supporting roller is rarely seen.
In short, the mechanical behavior of main components of rotary kiln is complex so that the theoretical derivation needs to make a large numbers of simplification, which is differed from the actual situation. At the same time, since the measurement is impacted by the test instruments, test means and the running environment of the scence of the rotary, a lot of field measurement is difficult to be achieved so that the theoretical conclusions are difficult to be verified. With the continues maturity of the finite element theory and the rapid development of computer technology, we should establish reasonable finite element analysis model to determine the reasonable boundary conditions for numerical simulation of the force situation of rotary kiln main components to obtain the deformation rules of the contact pressure of the main parts of rotary kiln and the force situation.
